iPad Air is the latest and greatest tablet from Apple. Non only the name has changed, there are a lot of things that makes its superior than its predecessor, the iPad 4. iPad Air is slimmer and has got much less bezels. Along with the new look, there is major improvement in performance.
iPad Air is 80% faster than iPad 4 (according to benchmarks!) which is drastic. The good thing is that the price of the new iPad Air is unchanged! Like always, iPad Air won’t be officially available in Nepal.
There are many third party distributors which sell Apple products in Nepal which is disappointing. The sad part is that we have to play almost twice as money to get our hands on Apple products after their lunch! Price of iPad Air in Nepal is Rs. 60,000 for 16GB Base model. Price rises upto Rs. 1,00,000 for 128GB model! iPad Air can be purchased at various places in New Road. They are also available for purchase in City Centre and Civil Mall. The more you will wait, the cheaper you will get iPad Air for. You should also negotiate as the sellers keep high margin in Apple products. You can also look in hamrobazar.com for offers.
The key features of iPad Air are as follows:
- 9.7″ Retina Display
- Dual Core A7 64-bit Processor
- 1GB DDR3 RAM
- iOS 7 out of the box
- 5MP iSight Camera
- 1.2MP “Improved” Front-Facing Camera

The new iPad Air remains the king of tablets with the best display around and largest optimized application library. Missing Touch ID( Fingerprint Scanner) was a big disappointment, though! There are some other downsides of iPad Air. Using iTunes for data and application transfer can be hassle for people like me. There is no proper codec support out of the box. The screen is in 4:3 ratio which is not good for movies. The proprietary lightning cable can be expensive to purchase and hard to find! These downsides are very minor and don’t make iPad Air not worth it! iPad is the most selling tablet around the world and there are reasons for it!
The new iPad is much lighter and is more comfortable to use. The speakers are loud and produce enough bass to produce superior sound quality. You can also connect Bluetooth Keyboard and use it for work. For people with money, this is a must have gadget. iPad Air is worth the purchase if you can get it for reasonable price here in Nepal.
