The most anticipated phone in Nepal of 2017 has to be the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+. Both the phones were made official at 19th of April and here’s my hands-on impression of the phone.
Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+ without any doubt are the best phones money can buy right now. Having used them for one hour or so, I can confidently say that they are very close to being a perfect smartphone.
First things first, the display on the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ is amazing. And no, the display isn’t as humongous as you think it is. For a phone with 5.8″ diagonal and 6.2″ for the S8+, you would think that the phones would be very large in size (and you would be wrong). Thanks to the minimal bezels on the top and the bottom as well as the non-existent bezels on the sides, the phone is quite compact.
When we put the iPhone 7 Plus next to the Galaxy S8 Plus, the iPhone looked ancient! This year, Samsung clearly focused on the design of the phone. Samsung Galaxy S8 only comes in the edge variant this year. It’s a great news as you don’t have to pay a premium for the edge screen.
Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8+ pack the same hardware inside. The only difference between them is the screen size and the battery size. The Samsung Galaxy S8 has a 5.8″ screen and comes in 2 colors: Maple Gold and Midnight Black. The Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus has a 5.8″ screen and comes in three color options: Maple Gold, Midnight Black and Coral Blue. The price of Samsung Galaxy S8 in Nepal is Rs.88,900 and the price of Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus in Nepal is Rs.98,900.
Here is a quick rundown of specs of Samsung Galaxy S8 which is coming to Nepal:
- 5.8″ Curved Super Amoled with 1440*2960 Screen Resolution (for Galaxy S8)
- 6.2″ Curved Super Amoled with 1440*2960 Screen Resolution (for Galaxy S8 Plus)
- Exynos 8895 SoC (No Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 for Nepal)
- 4GB of RAM
- 12MP Rear Camera with 4K Video Recording
- 8MP Front Camera with 2K Video Recording
- 3000mAh Battery (for Galaxy S8) and 3500mAh Battery (for Galaxy S8+)
- USB C port with Quick Charge
- Bluetooth 5.0
- Wireless Charging
- IP68 rating
As you can see in the specs above, the only two things that differentiate the S8 from the S8+ is the screen size and battery capacity. Apart from these two difference, the two phone are identical.
Having tested both the phones, I liked the Samsung Galaxy S8+ better. But it’s a personal preference. Also, keep in mind that you pay Rs.10,000 more when you make jump from the Samsung Galaxy S8 to the Galaxy S8+. The price of Samsung Galaxy S8 in Nepal is Rs. 88900 whereas the Galaxy S8+ price in Nepal is Rs.98900. The good thing about getting the Samsung flagship this year is the fact that you get 6 month of screen breakage insurance from Shikhar Insurance which just sweetens the deal!
Both the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the S8+ will be from 5th of May. You can also pre-order the phone right now at s8prebooking.com. Pre-booking is valid till 2nd of May. These two phones are the best phones you can buy right now in Nepal or anywhere else. Period.
