No new hardware revealed at WWDC 2014

The Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2014 revealed no new hardware. It was a kind of surprise to us as Apple usually reveals new hardware in this event. No new iPhone, iPad, MacBook Air/Pro or Mac Pro was introduced. The long rumoured iWatch also didn’t make its way into WWDC. The update to Apple TV was expected but it too wasn’t revealed in WWDC 2014.

No new hardware revealed at WWDC 2014WWDC 2014 was all about software. Apple introduced iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite which is the successor of OS X Mavericks. OS X and iOS have now better integration and Apple iPhone/iPad synchronizes with Macbook Air/Pro and Mac Pro in much improved manner. When both of the system are connected in the same home network, they can interact with one another intelligently. You can start typing your E-Mail in iPhone and finish it up in the Macbook!

iOS 8 has the following new features:

  • Dedicated “Health” App
  • Quick Type Keyboard and support for 3rd Party Keyboard like SwiftKey
  • Family Sharing which lets up to 6 users in a family share photos, videos and much more!
  • iCloud Drive for storing all your important files in the cloud
  • New Messaging Service which lets you send multiple photos and videos at once
  • Smarter Photo Library and Photo App with in-build editor and full access to iCloud Service
  • Do not Disturb” in messages
  • Smarter, quicker and better Siri with song recognition with Shazam

Though no new hardware was introduced, Apple introduced major improvements in software side. Although we had expected new Macs it wasn’t possible as Intel has not yet introduced new line of processors. MacBooks always use the latest generation processors from Intel. iWatch announcement was expected too but looks like Apple isn’t ready yet. Apple TV will see an upgrade soon but we don’t know when. WWDC was a good show but it disappointed those who were expecting new hardware! Thanks for reading my post. Stay tuned and stay updated.
