OBI MV1 is the third phone from OBI stable that has been launched in Nepal. For those curious, MV stands for Mount View. The OBI MV1 is an entry-level smartphone and is the first phone to run on Cyanogen Mod. The price of OBI MV1 in Nepal is Rs. 15,610. The design and the build of the MV1 is what impressed us the most at first use.
OBI MV1 without any doubt is one of the most beautiful phone you can get for under Rs.20,000. But let’s not just a book by its cover. Here’s what is powering the OBI MV1:
- 5-inch Fully Laminated 720p HD IPS Display
- Sunlight Display Technology
- Snapdragon 212 Quad Core CPU
- 2GB of RAM
- 16GB Internal Storage
- 8MP Rear Camera
- 2MP Front Camera
- 1080p Full HD Video Recording @ 30fps
- 4G VoLTE capable
- 2500mAh battery
The OBI MV1 is marvellously designed. A lot of attention to detail has been put into the making of the phone. Today, there’s generic smartphones all around us but the MV1 is very different. This phone doesn’t try to be what it isn’t. No, it isn’t made entirely out of metal but that really doesn’t matter. When you hold the phone for the phone time, you immediately realise how substantial it is. The heft of the phone gives it real nice premium feel.
The OBI MV1 in other countries comes with 1GB RAM/8GB Storage option but it isn’t the case in Nepal. We think the phone is decently specced for the price you are paying. The UI is clean and basic apps like Phone, Messaging and Camera worked with no problem. However, we found the Snapdragon 212 to have trouble keeping up with the task we threw at it. If you are looking to play games on this phone, we recommend you to look elsewhere. But if you are one of the people who chooses beauty over functionality, you can’t go wrong with this phone.
This is just our initial impression of the OBI MV1. We will be extensively using this phone. Expect a full-blown review of the phone very soon. As always, thanks for reading this post.
