Samsung Galaxy Gear is the first wearable mainstream targeted smartwatch from Samsung and is officially available in Nepal along side with Samsung Galaxy Note 3. International marketing services (IMS), the authorised distributor of Samsung devices has released this smartwatch in their Note 3 event. Price of Samsung Galaxy Gear in Nepal is Rs.46,500 which is at an expensive side. Honestly, Samsung Galaxy Gear is overpriced and doesn’t really have much to offer.
We know that putting a lot of “tech” inside a smartwatch is going to be expensive but Samsung is really overpricing this devices. There are only limited tasks that you can do with Samsung Galaxy Gear. For now, this watch is only compatible with Samsung Galaxy Note 3 which may be one of the biggest disappointment for consumers. Samsung will add compatibility to Samsung Galaxy Note 2, S4 and S3 later but we don’t really know when. The other disappointing this is that it won’t support smartphones other than Galaxy Line smartphones.
The design is nice and the watch is really easy to handle. The bezels are thin and the watch itself isn’t that ugly looking. We, however didn’t like the screws being exposed and the charging case for this watch is troublesome and inconvenient. The built is really good but doesn’t match up to regular watches which are shatterproof and waterproof. Samsung Galaxy Gear is not by any means water proof and you will have to be careful with that. The battery life is disappointing as well. You will need to charge it every other day. The Gear works on Bluetooth and doesn’t have place to insert SIM card either. However, the power consumption is really low as it works on Bluetooth 4.0 standard.
It is up to you to decide whether you want it or not. Do think twice. This is the first smartwatch from Samsung and it isn’t really that refined. I “strongly” recommend you to wait for Gear 2 smart watch as this generation of Smart Watchs really don’t have much to offer. Again, priced at Rs. 46,500, Samsung Galaxy Gear is available for purchase from IMS. Thank you for reading my post. Stay tuned and stay updated.
