The Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro is the first smartphone from Samsung that packs a staggering 6GB of RAM. Not only that but it offers a lot in terms of both hardware and software. Priced at Rs 59,990 is this the right phone for you? Is this phone worth your hard earned money? Well, let’s find out in this full detailed review.
The Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro is one handsome looking smartphone with its unibody aluminum construction. The phone not only looks good but also feels premium in the hands. Even though the C9 Pro is huge, its thin profile and narrow side bezels help the phone to be easily maneuvered. The phone also has hidden its antenna bands skillfully with just strips of thin lines running above and below the back panel. Aesthetically, the phone looks pleasing with the signature Samsung look like the pill shaped home button, capacitive back and recent app keys flaunted at the front. Our review unit came in the Jade Black color which looks amazing. I feel in love with the stealthy C9 Pro in our first meet. It was just that good looking! If you were wondering, the phone comes in two color options, Gold and as mentioned above, the Jade Black variant. I would highly suggest you go with the latter if you are in the market to buy this phone.
Samsung has always been known for their amazing AMOLED displays, with deep blacks, punchy colors, and eye-pleasing vibrancy. The Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro is no exception as it packs the same goodness in a 6-inch format with Full HD resolution. Even though at this price and size I would have preferred a Quad-HD display, the FHD panel with 367PPI doesn’t disappoint. Watching movies, Playing games, Browsing the internet, streaming Youtube has been a pleasurable experience all thanks to the amazing display. The larger display size also means better multi-tasking on the split screen mode the phone offers. The display of the C9 Pro is also well protected by Gorilla Glass 4 and is edged out by a 2.5D glass. This not only prevents damage from drops and scratches but also gives a smooth scrolling effect.
The Galaxy C9 Pro is a beast at handling day to day tasks all thanks to the Snapdragon 652 processor backed up by a whopping 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The processor is also coupled with the Adreno 510 GPU, giving it a superb gaming performance. I was easily able to play high ends games like Nova 3, Asphalt 8 and Dead Trigger 2 without any issue. The phone also stays relatively cool even under extensive load. That aside, I would have preferred a more powerful chipset with better performance at this price range. Don’t get me wrong the phone performs very well with the Snapdragon 652 but it could have been better. A Snapdragon 810 would be icing on the cake for this phone. Nonetheless, the C9 Pro didn’t fail to deliver and I am quite happy with its performance.
The C9 Pro runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with Samsung’s own custom skin, TouchWiz UI overlaid on top of it. Gone are the days when the TouchWiz UI used to lag and slowdown. The software offering on the C9 Pro is buttery smooth and I am quite pleased with the experience. Everything seems to be placed quiet nicely and I had no trouble going through the UI. It also brings a slew of useful features like Secure Folder, Always on Display, Blue-light filter and much more. The feature that I loved the most was the Always On Display and its convenience. The phone also has a robust theme store, meaning you can theme the phone to your heart’s content.

The Galaxy C9 Pro is a beast even in the camera department as it packs a f/1.9 16MP front as well as a rear camera. Getting to the camera app of the phone is as easy as double pressing the home button. And speaking of the camera app, the default one is packed to the gills with various modes and features. The photos taken from the phone are amazing with high details and eye-soothing vibrancy. Capturing photos is also less cumbersome as the phone has zero shutter lag. It is that instantaneous!! On top of that, the phone also offers a manual mode if you want to get more creative with your shots. Taking selfies on this phone is also very pleasurable with a wide angle lens, a front screen flash and a slew of touch up tools.
Even though the cameras on this phone have a wide aperture, the low light performance is not what I expected it to be. The photos come out to be soft and grainy at times in such scenarios. Compared to its bigger brother, the Samsung Galaxy S7/Edge the low light camera performance is severely lacking. Same goes for the video capabilities of the phone as well. In ample lighting conditions, the videos taken on the phone are excellent but the quality degrades in dimly lit situations. Overall, the cameras on the C9 Pro are good considering the price of the phone.
Biometrics and others:
The phone has a front mounted fingerprint scanner embedded into its home button. It works very well as I was easily able to unlock the phone in a jiffy. This time around Samsung has packed a dual-speaker setup with the phone. The top earpiece along with the bottom firing speaker makes for a stereo sound effect. However, the phone doesn’t quite pack the volume one would expect from a dual speaker set up. It definitely is not the loudest speakers I have ever heard, but it will get the job done.
Connectivity wise, the phone supports dual Nano-Sim cards and a Micro-SD card up to 256GB. NTC users, as of right now will be delighted to know that this phone is also 4G capable. Other connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, GPS, and USB Type C. The USB Type-C is a added bonus as it provides the phone the much needed future proofing.
The phone packs a large 4000mAh non-user removable battery. I am more than satisfied with its battery life as I was easily able to get through a day and a half on a single charge without any issues. With such great battery life, watching movies, playing games, browsing the net and streaming Youtube has been a pleasurable experience. I was able to do all these tasks without having to worry about the battery dying on me. And if the battery did run out, the included Fast charger always had my back. This inclusion makes juicing up the large battery less of a hassle.
The Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro is an amazing smartphone and I had a wonderful time using it. Heavy media consumers like me will be in awe with this phone. It is just that good!! The phone, however, is not a small device by any means and is targeted towards consumers who want a large premium phone with powerful specs at their fingertips. If you are someone like that you will without a doubt adore the C9 Pro. And even if you don’t fall in that category, the phone is still well worth it and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this phone to anyone.
