Why you shouldn’t buy a smartphone in 2014

Thinking of buying a new smartphone? Well, I would suggest you to wait. 2014 is really not the year to buy a new smartphone. Why? These new phones are really not worth it. They are only minor upgrade from phones from 2013. You can see it yourself. The Samsung Galaxy S5, Sony Xperia Z2 and HTC One (M8) are also just a minor update over its predecessor. There is really no “wow” factor in these new phones.

Price of Sony Xperia Z1 in NepalIf you have a phone from 2013, there is really no point in getting a new smartphone. Your phone will most probably last a couple of years more. If you have a phone from 2012, you may want to upgrade for the reason that phones of 2014 are really fast compared to the phones of 2012. For instance, Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC One X feel extremely laggy and have sluggish performance. What if you have a iPhone 4s? Should you upgrade? Of course, you need to upgrade! There are so many better phones out here. All of them are bigger and better. 3.5″ phone is really too small for doing anything. iPhone 5 and above don’t require upgrade as these phones are fast enough.

If you, however, want to get a new phone, I would suggest you to wait till the 3rd quarter od 2014 when Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 CPU will be released. Till then, we will also most probably see phones with 2K Display. That is when you are supposed to upgrade. Samsung Galaxy Note 4 or iPhone 6 may be the devices worth waiting for. iPhone 6 is expected to pack larger screen and better camera.

Upgrading phone every year can be expensive and it doesn’t make much sense. For each small upgrade, we approximately pay 600$. It’s really not worth it. Mobile devices that we have today are already fast for most tasks and virtually run all apps that are found in App Store and Play Store (if you have a high-end smartphone). Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and above are capable of running all apps with good frame-rate. Even if they don’t run in highest of settings, they sure will properly run down-scaled.

Playstation 4 (PS4) costs only 399$!Think about it yourself! There are a lot of things out there you can spend your money in! For instance, with your 600$, you can go down and get yourself a PS4 or a Xbox One and you might as well get yourself a good TV. Or you could buy a good Bluetooth Speaker for yourself. Sony SRS-BTX 300 is available for just 100$ now! There are so  many better things you can do with your money! This is it for now guys. Stay tuned and stay updated!
