Samsung has just released the successor of Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active. Last year, Samsung Galaxy S4 made a lot of sense and I actually bought one because the flagship S4 didn’t have any water or dust proofing. But since, Samsung Galaxy S5 has IP67 rating which makes it fully dust proof and water resistant under 1 meter up to 3o minutes, buying Samsung Galaxy S5 active makes very little sense. Are you willing to pay more for a little bit of more rugidness and bulkiness? That is a question you got to ask yourself first!
Samsung Galaxy S5 Active has the same specification as that of the original Samsung Galaxy S5. So, here is the run down of specs of Samsung Galaxy S5 Active:
- 5.1″ Full HD Super Amoled Display
- Exynos 5 Octa Core processor
- 2GB RAM
- 16MP Isocell Camera
- 4K Video Recording
- 2800mAh Battery
Finger Print Scanner
- Heart Beat Sensor
- IP67 certification for dust proofing and waterproofing*
- Ultra fast focus times
- IR Blaster
The only thing that seems to be missing from the Samsung Galaxy S5 is the finger print scanner and I am sure that most of us won’t mind because the scanner was really not that good. iPhone 5s has much better finger print scanner. The Active Galaxy S5 has three physical buttons instead of the usual capacitive Samsung phones and we quite like it. The physical buttons are easier to press and have a good feel to it.
There is also a dedicated blue button for launching Active apps and double press will open the camera app. However, you can customize this button and make it open any app by pressing it.
The user interface and everything else is the same. You get TouchWiz layer in front of Android 4.4.2. Along with it, you also get all Samsung gimmicky features with you will either love or hate! You also get IR Blaster like in the regular Samsung Galaxy S5.
Is the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active worth it then? Well, that depends on how much money you are paying for it. If you are paying the same amount of money as the regular S5, you ought to get it. However, if you have to pay 800$ for this phone, this phone is certainly not worth it. Also, this phone looks ugly. I know that Samsung Galaxy S5 doesn’t look any beautiful but it looks like Samsung Galaxy S5 with otterbox case installed in it. It is you to decide if you want this phone or not.
