Xiaomi has finally launched the show me MI band 3. It is the successor to the MI band 2 which is one of the most successful fitness trackers in Nepal. The MI band 3 is water resistant up to 50 meters and can be taken in for swimming. MI band 3 costs $26 in the international market but we can expect the fitness tracker to be launched at rupees Rs.4500 or so when it comes to Nepal. After the massive success of the Ultra-affordable Mi Band 2, the company wants to once again boost the sales of their fitness tracker lineup with the launch of the new fitness tracker, the Mi band 3. The company is following the philosophy of selling in high volumes. The company is focusing on pricing the Mi Band 3 competitively to achieve the goal.
There are two variants of the Mi Band 3 on offer. One with the NFC and one without it. Both of them feature 0.42-inch OLED panel with a resolution of 128 by 80 pixels. The fitness tracker connects to smartphones using Bluetooth. There’s no option of Wi-Fi on the new fitness tracker.
The battery size of the Mi Band 3 is 110mAh which is larger than that of the MI Band 2. In fact, it is twice as large as its predecessor. The company claims that a single charge will hold the battery for 20 days. The battery life is significantly better than its competitors.
The NFC Mi Band 3 costs $31 and it lets users pay wirelessly when it is synced with a smartphone.
The MI band 3 also comes with interchangeable straps which come in various colours. The great thing about it is that users can replace the bands all by themselves.
The fitness tracker will be available in China starting Tuesday, June 5. However, in context of Nepal, we can expect the product to be launched in 2 to 3 months time.
The unique feature of the MI band 3 is that it is waterproof up to 50 meters. It is one of the few smartwatches which can go underwater and not have any problem. The other smartwatch that has 50M of water-resistant is Apple watch Series 2 and Series 3 which cost well over $300. 50 meters of water resistance also means that you can take the fitness tracker in swimming pool as well as wear it while going to the shower.
The price of the Mi band 3 is $26 and that of the NFC variant is $31.
Mi Nepal doesn’t have all that good track record of keeping the prices of their products low. The Mi Band 2 still is solid at a premium. However, in recent times, we have seen the company sell products at really competitive prices and we hope to see the change reflected in the launch of Mi band 3 as well. We can expect the MI band 3 to launch before Dashain.
